"Carrying a town's water" by Diana Marcum review

"Carrying a town's water" by Diana Marcum review

This article was about a 72-year old woman named Donna Johnson who did anything she could to get families water during a drought in California. She walked door to door in over 100 degree weather and asked people if they needed water or had extra water. Marcum was saying that Donna Johnson was very helpful during this drought. She supports this claim by talking about Johnson's experience with the people in the town and about her journeys to find someone with water. This article is a good story, but its not really an argumentative piece. Marcum always was describing how tired the people were and how hot it was to add on to the setting of the story. The main point is expressed throughout the story, but not enough to make it significant. Marcum never really ends the story with people thanking Donna Johnson.

I thought this was a good story, but not a great one. I don't think it paid much attention to the main idea, and it didn't really stand out to me at any point while I was reading it. I think Marcum could've done a better job with making the story more exciting and making a better ending.

"How Does VR Actually Work?" review

"How Does VR Actually Work?" review

In this article, Sophia Charara, talks about all of the details of VR and how it actually works.  VR has two main tracking systems, head tracking and motion tracking. head tracking has to do with where you are actually looking. It runs off a system called 6DoF (six degrees of freedom). This is the X, Y, and Z axis that is measured where your head is moved to. motion tracking is where you are moving in your headset, whether you are moving in real life, or ordinarily, moving with controllers. this tracking system can make your VR experience better because you can look like you are doing stuff with your hands when you actually aren't. VR is connected with animation in the fact that many of the games are made in 3D programs. imagine making a virtual world in Maya and putting on a VR headset and walking around in what you have just created.

"Yes, as a Matter of Fact. You Do Need to Learn 3D." review

"Yes, as a Matter of Fact. You Do Need to Learn 3D." review

In this article, the author, Starshine Roshell, believes that everyone needs to learn how to use and create 3D projects. She gives many examples of 3D use in regular day life and tries to persuade you into trying out a program. In Roshell's argument, she says that 3D is everywhere, from furniture models in IKEA to video games, and even in food commercials. Her strength in this article giving good examples and making yourself believe you need to start using 3D. Roshell does not really have a conclusion, but she does have more of a recommendation. Roshell recommends programs for you to get started with, like Photoshop and Maya. In the body of this article, I do believe her arguments do fit well with the claim of using 3D programs. She convinces you to look around and find 3D around you and expresses that you need to be making 3D, too.

glasses and salt shaker

In Animation class we made 2 glasses using the revolve tool. To make these, you have to choose the revolve tool and place points in the shape of half of a glass. To finish the glass your must use the 360 degree tool to make the circle into a 3d glass. I made two glasses and colored them with the phong material. This was more of a small project, because we made a salt shaker too.

While making the salt shaker we used the loft tool. to make this, we made a cylinder and used the loft tool to make grooves in the middle of the shaker. I colored the shaker with phong swell.

My Story Animation

In animation class we made videos from pictures we drew and created in photoshop. My animation was about a bowling pin that is trying to avoid getting hit my a bowling ball. Our animations had to have a walk cycle, a multi plane background, and a puppet pin tool. First, I started off by making a storyboard. In my storyboard I drew all of my scenes and was checked by Mr. Netterville. Then I started making my different scenes in photoshop. After making all of the scenes, I had to import them into After Effects. Once they were in After Effects, I had to order them and make a puppet pin tool. I had already made the walk cycle and multi plane background in Photoshop. Finally, after all of that was completed, I rendered my video out and turned it in.

During this project, I learned that importing and rearranging the slides in After Effects takes a long time. Because of this, I turned in my project a little late. If I could have done something different, I would have come in early before school and imported and rearranged so I could turn the project in on time. One thing I would do the same is only use photoshop because I think making things on the computer is easier for me than drawing it and scanning it onto my computer. From this project I took away that you have to use your time wisely. In the end I thought this was the most fun project we have done because we get so much freedom in the storyline and really get to use our imaginations

My Portfolio

Throughout the semester in Animation class, we have made a variety of projects. We have used programs such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, and Maya. My 5 favorite projects are the hammer, the ice-cream model, the pen, the bouncing ball, and my personal project.

Hammer

When making the hammer, we learned about a number of tools that helped us make the hammer more realistic. We learned it through Google Classroom and Mr. Netterville showing us. My strength in this project was making the head of the hammer while my weakness was making the handle. After doing this project I learned how to smoothen and split polygons. I picked this project because I think this project really helped me get better at using Maya.

Ice-cream Model

The main thing we learned while making the ice-cream model is the way to set keyframes and animate Maya projects. We learned this through classroom and Mr. Netterville. I think making the animation with the project was my strength, but the textures were definitely my weakness because they would spin during the animation. after learning this, I can animate Maya projects. If I could change something, it would be making my textures not spin. I chose this project because it helped us get ready for our final.

Pen

While working on the pen we learned about the loft tool. This tool helped us smoothen some of the pen to make it look more realistic. I think my strength in this project was the detail on the the pen, but my weakness was making the cap. After this project, I have learned all the basics of Maya and can make whatever I can think of. I don't think I would change anything about this project because I thought it turned out well, especially for a final. I chose this project not only because it was my final, but it also shows how much I have learned since my first Maya project.

Bouncing Ball

The bouncing ball project was our first project in animation. In this project we learned how to make objects look more realistic, and we learned how to make grass. We learned this through Mr. Netterville. My strength in this project was making the ball look realistic, and my weakness was probably making too much grass. After learning this we made a couple of other projects then our personal project. I wouldn't change anything about this project because there is not much too change. I picked this project because it shows the bare minimum of my ability at the beginning of the year and what I can now do.

Personal Project

during the personal project we learned about how to combine multiple scenes into a short movie. We learned this through classroom and After Effects. My strength in his was making act scene detailed, but my weakness was turning it in on time. I don't think I would change anything because turning it in late showed me that I have to stay focused and turn in things on the deadline. I picked this project because it was my favorite. I believe having freedom creates the best projects, and this project also kept me very engaged in what I was doing. I loved doing this project and love doing stuff like it.
